What it could mean for power bills
Georgia Power base rates frozen through 2028
Georgia regulators froze Georgia Power's base rates through 2028 while the utility plans for about 8,200 MW of new demand, much of it from data centers. Watchdogs say the growth is overestimated, and storm costs can still raise bills.
The US Energy Information Administration expects average home electricity prices to reach 18.2 cents per kWh in 2026, almost 5% higher than 2025, with demand from businesses including data centers a key reason. Some East Coast areas may see up to 7% a year.
